5D separates who is doing the work at each phase. The producer decides and develops. The consumer does and reaches the dream. They meet at D3, and that meeting is the whole risk.
| Phase | Name | Primary Player | What Happens |
|---|---|---|---|
| D1 | Decision | Producer | The producer identifies an opportunity, commits to building an offering, and defines the dream outcome they are aiming to create. |
| D2 | Development | Producer | The producer designs and builds the offering, whether methodology, curriculum, product or service, to a quality that makes the offer credible. |
| D3 | Deal | Producer + Consumer | Producer and consumer meet, assess fit across all eight facets, and reach agreement. This is the value exchange moment. |
| D4 | Doing | Consumer | The consumer applies what they have received. This is where the real work of change happens: in practice, not in purchase. |
| D5 | Dream | Consumer | The consumer's improved state is realised. The original dream, defined by both P and C, becomes lived reality. |
It is viable only inside the zone where both sides gain. Win-win or it is a structural defect: a bad deal destroys trust in whoever enforced it, and trust is a facet too.
